As the popularity of running half marathons and marathons increases, so does the participants seeking to run in some of the most difficult races to get into. Alongside the Boston and Chicago Marathon, New York City Marathon is one of the pre-eminent running events in the world. With over 45,000 runners, 3 million spectators, and over 300 million television viewers it’s certainly an event you have to experience first hand.
Now as I mentioned getting there is quite difficult. You can either qualify, win a bib by being selected in the lottery, and you can earn a bib entry by running for a charity and non-profit organization. In my opinion the charity option is the best way to run the race. My first time running the New York City Marathon started when I learned about the ING Run For Something Better Charity.
Of course there’s always a chance of you being selected through the lottery, but chances are still slim. I’m a firm believer that signing up through a charity is probably one of the most rewarding ways to accomplish a tremendous goal while raising money for a good cause. What’s incredible about running a marathon for a cause organization such as Orange Laces Nation is that it holds you accountable when the training gets long. If you’ve never trained for a marathon before it can be a strenuous and never-ending experience. From hosting events to raise awareness for the cause and fundraising to friendly competition with others in the charity group – running for a cause makes the whole experience very rewarding.
The ING Orange Laces Nation has only 110 guaranteed entries available and now we’re done to our last few (less than 10). Click the link here to sign up. As the team captain of the Orange Laces Nation I’m extremely privileged to be helping everyone accomplish their goals for another year. See you on the streets in New York!
